Lauren Bloom joined Navy Mutual as the Association’s first General Counsel in 2006. She provides legal and governance support to the Board of Directors and professional staff, spearheads the Association’s governmental relations efforts and oversees the Education Department.
Ms. Bloom began her legal career in the Attorney General’s Honors Program at the U.S. Justice Department, representing the United States in litigation nationwide. She soon moved into private practice, specializing in association law, commercial law and governance. She spent more than fourteen years as General Counsel of the American Academy of Actuaries, where her practice focused on Board governance, professional ethics and association law. She played a pivotal role in the development and enforcement of the U.S. actuarial profession’s standards of conduct, qualification and practice, and designed educational sessions for actuaries in the United States and abroad. She also regularly represented the actuarial profession before governmental officials and courts at both the state and national levels.
Ms. Bloom holds a B.A. in English from Yale College and a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America, where she was valedictorian of her graduating class. She also holds an advanced degree in Labor Law with distinction from Georgetown Law Center.
